I have chosen Abd al-Wahab al-Masiri to recommend a group of Western and Muslim thinkers from Europe, the Arab world, and the Islamic world. These thinkers are concerned with the national, nationalistic, and religious issues of their people, rather than those who live in luxurious apartments, far away from the problems of reality. This study reveals that these thinkers are more open to ideas derived from other civilizations, and they are less rigid in their adherence to religious texts, while still paying attention to the spirit and essence of religion, even though they try to avoid deviating from religious principles. The study also answers the question that has been bothering al-Masiri: what is the common thread among these thinkers, despite their differences in cultural and civilizational backgrounds? The answer lies in their humanistic approach, which recognizes that the human being has a distinct existence, effectiveness, and independence within the broader context of existence and beyond. Al-Masiri’s choices are guided by a clear and coherent logic, based on a mind that is capable of appreciating all human creations that support the value of humanity, while at the same time criticizing any ideas that are contrary to humanity itself.
