In the preface to the first edition of this book, Professor Abdurrahman said, “I don’t think that a new book I write can add any new insights to what has already been written about this biography. But I wanted to describe the story of a man whose heart was filled with compassion for the sufferings, problems, and dreams of human beings. His teachings created a vibrant civilization that enriched the souls of people around the world for centuries. They inspired generations of people to move forward, and revealed aspects of human nature and human life.” This is just a portion of the preface. In another part, he said, “We don’t need another book about religion, to be read only by Muslims. But we need hundreds of books that represent Islam itself. These books should be read by Muslims as well as non-Muslims, to highlight the positive aspects of our heritage and to show what is truly human in the life of those who carry out the mission of Islam. We truly need hundreds of books that can be read by everyone who believes in the prophethood of Muhammad, and by those who don’t believe in it. We always need to reevaluate our heritage.”It aims to revive what is human in humanity, and to spread it to the world. In other words, it seeks to highlight the worldly aspects that are truly a common heritage of all people, regardless of their religions, philosophies, or opinions. Thus, it is a human book that discusses the unique human condition. It explores the life of a human being who was able to establish a strong belief system, a widespread religion, and various doctrines on his own.
