This book begins with a portrayal of modern, educated women who pay excessive attention to external appearances, at the expense of the woman’s true role in her own home. Interest in domestic matters has diminished, and all that remains to her is self-reflection. This is the opposite of her mother, who was obsessed with traditional values and believed that women should focus on their roles in society. The perspective of men towards women has also changed over the past half-century. While men used to see women as companions and mentors for their children, now their focus is solely on the physical aspects of women, not their intelligence.
