Before the sun rises, the streets of the town are filled with the creations of God, of all colors: men, women, boys, girls, and old people. They all head towards the “meeting place of the people,” where the workers of the day gather. Then, the boss decides who among them is suitable for the work, after listening to their complaints. He may even bite those who deviate from the right path or talk too much during the meeting. A world filled with cruelty and danger, as described by Khayri Shlebi in his novel “Al-Siniroua”. But, as usual, his novels also depict the human aspects of daily life, within the home and around the village, on days when meat is eaten during the season, and other moments of happiness amidst the pain of the lost dreams of the village’s young people, one by one.
