One of the founding fathers of modern Arabic literature, he excelled in poetry, prose, journalism, criticism, and translation. Along with ‘Abdel Rahman Shukri, he established the literary group “Al-Diwan” to defend contemporary literature against classical works. He published witty and satirical articles in prominent newspapers of his time. He served as editor of several newspapers and was elected as a member of the Journalists’ Association and the Arabic Language Institute.
