“This book is not a book meant for criticizing novels. On the contrary, it serves as a collection of readings of some novels and writers that I have appreciated. Of course, I’ve not read all the novels I liked, otherwise I would need many books to do so. It was simply a matter of coincidence that these chapters were compiled together. Nevertheless, the reader may find that each chapter raises questions or issues related to the art of writing novels. These questions stem from the very essence of the work itself, not from any theories or preconceived ideas about what novels should be like. In my opinion, there are no rules for novels—only talented writers who can create true novels, those that can distinguish between genuine and fake novels. But every novel must pass two important tests. The first test is the judgment of the public. This judgment can be correct or incorrect. The second test, or the final judgment, is the test of time itself.”I say to myself: We are still in the first stage of the testing process… We can only rely on our own judgments regarding what we read. This is exactly what I recommend to every reader who loves novels. Even though I believe that readers already do this without me even having to say it!
