“السقا مات” is a timeless novel written by the great writer Yusuf Sabi. It is considered one of the masterpieces of Arab literature as a whole. The story takes place in a symbolic setting, exploring the issue of death. The protagonist of the novel, Teacher Shusha al-Saqa, tries to escape the memories of his wife’s death by moving through various aspects of life. Eventually, he meets a person who is completely opposite to him. He is saved from being beaten in a restaurant. Their relationship becomes closer, and Teacher Shusha is invited to live with him, along with his grandmother and son, Sid. Soon, Teacher Shusha’s life changes when he learns about the profession of this person. He leaves his job as a waiter and starts working with him.
