The novel is based on a game-like structure. I depict a fictional place, and in the background of this fictional place, I present real history. I create a connection between these two places. In the fictional world, there’s an island located somewhere between the coast of Zanzibar and Yemen. The time setting is the late 19th century. In part of the novel, there’s an event involving the bombing of Alexandria, which is real. I wanted to create a story that continues to resonate with us even today. The people living in this place are trapped between the oppression of invaders and the tyranny of rulers. This is an attempt to get closer to the ancient story and to free ourselves from the constraints of the novel.
