Can animals save the children of the Earth from the madness of humans? The lion “Sabawe” sits down with the elephant “Kimo” and the giraffe “Zherif” to discuss what is happening on the Earth. They realize that the actions of humans are causing wars, famine, and strikes. The animals are worried and saddened by the suffering of the children. So, they decide to hold a conference to save the Earth. The first “Conference of Animals” is held, and animals from all over the world gather to bring peace to humanity. But soon, the animals participating in the conference realize that they need to use some clever strategies to make humans take them seriously. This novel was published in 1949. It was Eris Kestner’s first work after the end of World War II, during which he spent time in Germany (1939–1945), and writing and publishing were prohibited. Kestner decided to write a novel for both young people and adults, one that tells the story of the madness of humans, which seems to never end until the end of the world.
