This historical novel takes place during the reign of ruler Ahmad ibn Tulum. It’s a trilogy, similar to the “Children of the People” series. The three stories include: The First Story: Maysun; The Second Story: Ahmad’s Dream; The Third Story: The Era. The story revolves around Qatay’a, a city steeped in ancient magic and charm. There’s no escape from its allure. In its streets, the scent of bread and sweets reminds us of the pleasures of life and the taste of love. No one here is satisfied with just sugar-coated bread. From hand to hand, from mouth to mouth, wheat melts deep within us, reviving our distant memories. In this city, a tailor weaves garments made of pure silk, but no one knows what happens to their owner. Perhaps it’s a dress for a bride who longs and wishes for it, or for the ruler who walks across the land, filled with sorrow and despair. Perhaps it’s a dress made of threads woven with sorrow, pain, patience, and endurance. Here, joy remains incomplete, and the body remains powerless. Even if power were given to it…In this city, a blacksmith crafts swords, pondering over who will die them into. He wishes to eliminate all those who oppress others, all those who are greedy for power. He knows that he will cut off the heads of innocent people, as well as those lost in the darkness of the streets. Many soldiers also lose their lives, just to preserve the memories that slip away from our hands. This shop copies books about past and future history. It tries to collect memories in its pockets, to remember the wisdom of the ancients… but it loses against fire and destruction. When the traces of the city are erased, and power triumphs over memory, writing becomes necessary. In order to preserve some of those memories… Here, a elder has died, never turning away from the truth. Here, a man’s dream has been destroyed. Here, all forces show their weakness, and all oppressors suffer defeat. Here, humans realize that they lose a little of themselves with each passing day… And the end is inevitable. It will be accompanied by sorrow and much longing.
